Privacy Policy
This policy explains how Beijing Yuanshi Shuju Technology Co., Ltd. collects, uses, shares, and protects personal data when you use GooseWrite.
Welcome to GooseWrite. Your privacy is important to Beijing Yuanshi Shuju Technology Co., Ltd. ("Yuanshi Shuju", "we", "our", or "us"), the operator of the GooseWrite platform.
We provide GooseWrite through our website and desktop applications as an all-in-one information flow workstation designed to connect, manage, and synchronize multi-format deliverables.
This Privacy Policy applies to our Services only. It does not apply to third-party websites, products, services, or applications even if they are integrated into, or accessible through, our Services.
Key points
- GooseWrite follows a local-first product model and does not upload or host your project content on our servers.
- We only process limited account, billing, support, website usage, telemetry, and diagnostic information needed to operate the service.
- Users in the EEA, UK, and California receive additional statutory rights described below.
1. Our Local-First Core Principle
GooseWrite is designed as a Local-First application. Your text, graphics, project data, and generated files (collectively, "Content") reside entirely on your physical device.
We do not upload, host, or back up your Content to our servers. We have no technical means or desire to access the files you create inside the software, and you remain solely responsible for your own backup strategy.
Important local-first note
Because GooseWrite is local-first, losing your device, removing local storage, or uninstalling the app without your own backup plan may permanently remove your content.
2. How We Collect Your Information
Through our products and websites, we may collect and process limited categories of information for operational, support, security, and diagnostic purposes.
| Sources of data | Types of data |
|---|---|
| Provided by you to create an account or use our Services | Account & Subscription Data: email address, account creation timestamp, and subscription status. |
| Provided by you when contacting us for technical support | Support Data: email address and the communication contents of your inquiry or bug report. |
| Automatically recorded when you access our website or log into the application | Usage Logs: IP address, rough geo-location converted from IP, browser type, operating system, search terms, and interaction timestamps. |
| Automatically sent when the software runs | Technical Telemetry & Performance Data: lifecycle events, hardware metadata, error logs, and stability telemetry. |
| Incidentally captured within automated error logs during crashes | Incidental Technical Contexts: temporary technical contexts such as local file paths or code execution error locations. |
Incidental technical contexts
Although we do not intentionally collect your files, diagnostic logs may occasionally capture local file paths, local usernames, or technical snippets needed to locate a bug. We treat this information as personal data whenever applicable under GDPR or CCPA.
3. How We Use Your Information and GDPR Legal Bases
- Performance of a contract: we process Account & Subscription Data to manage your login credentials, verify premium access, facilitate renewals, and respond to support requests.
- Consent: we process Technical Telemetry & Performance Data and Incidental Technical Contexts to troubleshoot bugs, maintain stability, and improve performance. You may revoke this consent through product settings at any time.
- Legitimate interests: we process Usage Logs and related server data to maintain service security, prevent fraudulent multi-device account pooling, and improve the website and service experience.
Our legitimate interests include managing and operating our business effectively, protecting infrastructure and systems, conducting internal troubleshooting, and maintaining reliable product quality.
5. With Whom We Share Your Information
- Authorized service providers: we use Clerk Inc. and its affiliates for authentication and identity management, and Lemon Squeezy, LLC as our merchant of record and payment processor.
- Business transfers: account information may be transferred in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, sale of assets, or bankruptcy scenario.
- Legal compliance and protection: we may disclose information where required by law or where reasonably necessary to protect legal rights, property, security, or public safety.
6. Cross-Border Transfers
Yuanshi Shuju is headquartered in Beijing, China, but account and billing data may be transferred to, stored in, or processed in the United States, Singapore, or the European Economic Area to support international service delivery.
Where EEA or UK personal data is transferred to jurisdictions without an adequacy decision, we rely on appropriate safeguards including Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.
If you object to the cross-border transfer of the information strictly necessary to administer your account or subscription, some premium or network-dependent features may not be available.
7. Your Rights Under GDPR
- Right of access to the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Right to erasure of your account and associated diagnostic logs.
- Right to withdraw consent where processing relies on consent, including telemetry settings.
- Right to restrict or object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Right to data portability for your account-related data.
To exercise these rights, contact support@goosewriteapp.com. If you believe our processing infringes GDPR and you are unsatisfied with our response, you may complain to your local data protection authority.
8. Your Rights Under CCPA
- Right to know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collected, used, or disclosed during the past 12 months.
- Right to delete personal information collected from you.
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.
We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Our sharing with Clerk and Lemon Squeezy is limited to authorized business purposes only.
To submit a CCPA request, email support@goosewriteapp.com. We may verify your identity by matching your request against active authentication records.
9. Data Security and Retention
We implement reasonable technical, administrative, and physical security measures including encryption in transit and strict access controls. However, no Internet transmission or electronic storage system is completely secure.
- Active accounts: account and subscription data are retained while your account remains active.
- Inactive accounts: if your account is completely inactive for more than one year, we may delete authentication records after advance notice.
- Diagnostic logs: automated error and diagnostic logs are purged or anonymized within 90 days of collection.
- Service termination: if GooseWrite is permanently shut down, we will securely delete or anonymize cloud-hosted authentication and subscription logs except where retention is legally required for tax or financial compliance.
10. Our Policy Towards Minors
Our Services are directed to a general audience and are not intended for children. If you are under 16, or the legal minimum age in your jurisdiction, you may not install the software or create an account unless your parent or guardian provides verifiable consent.
We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors under 16. If we learn that we collected such data without proper consent, we will promptly delete it.
11. Links to Third-Party Sites
Our website or desktop applications may contain links to third-party websites, plug-ins, or services. Any information you provide to those external services is governed by their own privacy policies and not by this Privacy Policy.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our legal obligations or in how we handle data. Material changes will be announced by updating the Last Updated date and, where appropriate, by a more prominent website or in-app notice.
By continuing to use the Services after an update becomes effective, you acknowledge the revised policy. Where applicable law requires additional consent for changes that materially affect your rights, we will request that consent before the changes take effect.
